The difference comes down to one thing: what is written down. Every Bitcoin payment records the amount and both addresses on a ledger that anyone can read for as long as the chain exists. That record does not carry your name, but it carries a pattern, and a pattern is enough to connect a payment to a person once you have one point of contact. Monero does not write the amount or the addresses in the clear, which is the entire difference and the reason most regulars use it.
What that means in practice for a single order. If you pay in Bitcoin, the fact that you paid, how much, and to which address is a permanent public fact. If you paid from an address that is connected to an exchange that knows your name, that fact is now connected to you. If you pay in Monero, none of that is on the chain, and the connection has to be made somewhere else, which is harder and is where the real risk lives, because the risk moves from the transaction to the person who moved the coins.
The honest framing
Neither coin is private by itself. Bitcoin is public and Monero is not, and that is a real and large difference. But both of them become a record the moment they touch a service that knows who you are, and that is true whether the coin is Monero or Bitcoin. The coin controls what the chain shows. It does not control what the exchange shows, and the exchange is where most people actually get traced.
So the decision is not really about the coin. It is about what you are comfortable leaving in a permanent record and how carefully you move the coins. If you do not care about the record, use whichever is convenient and stop worrying. If you do care, use Monero and move it through a wallet you control before it reaches the market, and understand that the coin is doing its part and the rest is on your handling.
