A holding page that makes every arrival wait a moment before entry looks like an obstacle and is actually the thing keeping the shop reachable during a flood. Without it, a burst of automated traffic takes the whole service off the network for everybody. Let one attempt finish untouched rather than reloading, because a reload throws away a nearly complete pass and puts you back at the end of the line. Most reports of the queue looping forever are somebody reloading during the check.
